Vintage game of the week :Mario

gamedbase.com

ITS A ME A MARIO!!! Ok not really its me Matsterchief again for another vintage game review. This weeks game is Super Mario Bro. for the Nintendo. I don't care who you are this game is a classic and everyone should play it at least once. Its a game that makes you feel like a kid no matter what your age. Its a simply must play game.

The story line is a bit confusing and to be honest I don't have much of a clue what it is at all just that a princess named peach has been kidnapped by a turtle dragon dude and you have to rescue her pretty awesome right. The game itself is a simple plat forming game meaning you basically jump from platform to platform while avoiding hazards and enemies like lava lakes or man eating plants. You just go from level to level avoiding all obstacles and jump on a flag pole to go to the next level not much more difficult than that.

Besides the story being somewhat lacking in my opinion but the simple fun of avoiding obstacles and jumping on gumpa's heads (bad guys in the game) or dodging squids in underwater levels or eating mushrooms that let you through fire balls, this game just makes me feel like a kid again and I have a blast while doing it. So with that being said I give Super Mario Bros. a 9 out of 10. Remember however that this is just my opinion so play the game for yourself and then you decide whether you like it or not.

Mobile Games

crypticgnome.com

Hello once again this is Matsterchief here to talk about the wonderful world of mobile games. Mobile games have taken much of the gaming and entertainment markets by storm. This is most likely due to the fact that a vast majority of the public have or at least have access to some sort of smart phone or tablet.

Several games such as the very popular Clash of Clans and Game of War have had millions of downloads and people are wildly impressed. Many people have even said that because of mobile games, console games could be non existent in the near future. However many people disagree with this me as well. Mobile games are fun to play when your bored when your waiting for someone at school or if your on a long road trip but they don't offer too much in the form of a story or gameplay. Most have choppy controls or extremely bad graphics and play styles that cannot compete with console games.

All that aside I will not say that mobile games are a waste of time or they are stupid, I like to play them and I play them a lot just not for long periods of time. They're fun but not too fun to replace my consoles.

Well that's all for today MatsterChief signing off

Cake is a Lie

Video game Advertising

Hello my faithful blog peoples its me again and today I thought I would talk about a topic associated with gaming, and that is the video game advertising. Video game advertising is a huge business. Some game campaigns cost several million dollars in hopes that they will get enough peoples attention to buy their game and make up for the campaign costs and of course make a profit.

However some games can run huge campaigns and still run up short. One example of this is the game called Homefront. They ran several elaborate and expensive campaigns and failed to make a sufficient profit. Then there are games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 whose ad campaigns have rivaled that of block buster movies.

So for those of you out their who like games and advertising maybe this is the career for you.

Until next time this is Matsterchief signing off.

Horror Game of the Month
www.gamespot.com

Hey everyone it MatsterChief again for Horror game of the month. This month it goes to The Evil Within. This game combines hide and seek style scares, psychological scares and trickery and nail biting raw nerve style horror that makes horror games awesome. The game takes place where your character a police detective is en route to an asylum after getting a call that there losing control of the asylum. When your character finally arrives immediately you can just feel that the place just does not feel right at all. You and several other officers enter the building and notice that somethings off immediately things go down hill fast. Not long into the game all the other officers are dead and your the last one standing and next thing you know you black out and are hanging in a meat locker with other corpses. At this point crap just got real. Once you free yourself you have to hide from a huge butcher like zombie for a good part of the first chapter. Hiding is the main point in this game this is not your run up and shoot everything and they die, this game is like hey heres five bullets and twenty enemies who don't die easily have fun!

This game does have some faults though. Many people and me included found the story engaging at first then felt it was lacking the further we got. Also the enemies were very overpowered and the stealth system did not always work so well. Glitches aside this game will have your nerves worn raw and you leaving your lights on in your room for the next twenty years.

Well sadly this is all the time I have for today so until next time my fellow gamers and horror fans. MatsterChief signing off.

Gamer lingo

GAMER LINGO
www.parpatuk.com
"Stinken NEWB TUBER!" , "Shut up Newb!", "Man the game just proced." Hey again this is MatsterChief and you may be wondering what I was just yapping about well I'm going to explain. Those random outbursts were some of a very wide range of terms and sayings that many but of course not all gamers use. Personally I have only said the NEWB TUBER a lot of other game lingo ive never really used before. What is a newb tuber you may ask, a newb tuber is generally someone who plays first person style shooting games such as Call of Duty who uses a grenade launcher to get the majority of their points. This is aggravating due to the fact that the under barrel grenade launcher in most games is overpowered and just has to land close to its target to kill someone. I don't mind if people use them every once and awhile but really when im getting killed and killed and killed by the same person using the grenade launcher it tends to grind my gears.

Game lingo is not just for gaming sessions or for hard core gamers many people who are casual gamers will often use certain game lingo in social meetings. One example of this that I use in every post is the semi-famous "THE CAKE IS A LIE!" this is a direct reference to two of my favorite games Portal and Portal 2. I wont spoil its exact meaning just it has something to do with the main story line in both games. Anyway gamers sometimes will use this as almost a secret password to find out if other people are among the gaming cult. Another famous gamer saying is "I used to be a reporter, sword fighter, etc. but then I took and arrow to the knee." this is referring to the game Skyrim where every once and while a town guard will talk to you and state that he was once and adventurer like you until he took an arrow to the knee. Weird how such a stupid sentence could become famous but it did though. It  has been copied many times be referred to very often.

There are loads and loads of other game lingo and I could probably go on forever about them but I think you guys pretty much got the just of it. Until next time MatsterChief signing off.

Video Game Competition's (MLG)

gamesyndrome.com
Hello again MatsterChief again. I was just wanting to briefly talk about something I find extremely cool and interesting, Video game competitions. Most people think of video games as just things play as hobbies in there dark basement but all around the world there are people who take them just as seriously as football and baseball.

There are several Video competitions held across the globe each year. There are some teams that are viewed as superstars in their home countries. These competitions can get very heated and intense even just watching them can sometimes leave you on the edge of your seat.

These matches can last anywhere from just a couple minutes to a couple hours depending on the game and the cirumstances. Many of these events are even televised just like NFL and MLB. Also there is typically a lot at stake in these competitions. The prize money ranges anywhere from $10,000 to around $2 million dollars. So next time you make fun of that nerdy kid playing games just think one day he could go pro and make more money in one day that you would make in your life. Probably would not happen but you never know.

Until again my friends MatsterChief signing off.

Retro Game of the day! Contra

www.thealmightyguru.com
Hello again MatsterChief once again today I am going to do something a little different and that is a retro game flashback! Many of you might not have grown up playing the old school Nintendo and I am not refereeing to the Nintendo 64 but like the very first Nintendo console.

For me when growing up the game I played the most had to have been Contra. This is a classic game that rivals even the classic Mario which I might review in a later blog. Until then, Contra was a sidescrolling shooter that had either you by yourself or you and a friend running along a pre-determined route and basically blast about everything in sight.

www.ign.com
I can't even remember what the point of the game was I think it had something to do about killing like aliens or something I just remember spending hours sitting with my brother just dominating everything in sight. Dying would suck because it would send you back to a crappy check point but in the end the game was too much fun to really worry about that. If any of you guys haven't played this game I highly recommend playing just pick up a cheap old Nintendo and a copy of Contra and spend an hour or so playing and you'll see what I mean by blowing up everything!

It's been a pleasure, MatsterChief signing off.
